A V-ribbed belt (also known as a poly-V-belt, micro-V-belt, multirib or ribbed belt) is a flat drive belt with longitudinal ribs that enables high power transmission with low deflection and high speeds. It is an important component in industrial drive technology and is used in numerous machines and systems.
V-ribbed belts combine the advantages of V-belts and flat belts, enabling high power transmission with a compact design. Thanks to their flexible design, they ensure smooth running, reduce vibrations and improve energy efficiency. V-ribbed belts are used in conveyor systems, pumps, fans, compressors and many other industrial systems. Their durability and resistance to high loads make them an economical solution for numerous drive tasks.
Our range includes a large selection of branded products from all leading V-ribbed belt manufacturers.

A V-ribbed belt consists of several main components that give it its high performance and long service life:
Tension cord (tension member)
The tension cord is the load-bearing element of the V-ribbed belt and is usually made of high-strength materials such as polyester, aramid or fibreglass. It ensures high tensile strength, flexibility and dimensional stability, which increases the service life of the belt.
Ribbed tread (running surface)
The underside of the belt consists of several parallel ribs that fit perfectly into the grooves of the pulleys. This profile enables even load distribution and ensures efficient power transmission with minimal slippage.
Elastomer compound (belt body)
The belt body is made of a special rubber compound (e.g. EPDM, polyurethane or neoprene), which ensures high elasticity, abrasion resistance and resistance to temperature fluctuations and chemical influences.
Top layer (optional)
Some V-ribbed belts have a rubberised top layer that provides additional protection against wear and reduces noise.
This ingenious design makes V-ribbed belts an efficient and durable solution for industrial drives. They enable high power transmission in confined spaces and are indispensable in many applications such as machines, fans, pumps and vehicle drives.
V-ribbed belts are standardised in various profiles that differ in rib spacing, width and application. The most common profiles are based on international standards such as ISO 9982 and DIN 7867, but it is almost always sufficient to know the rib width to find a suitable replacement.
Profil name | Rib width | Belt height | Field of application |
---|---|---|---|
PH | 1,6 mm | 3,0 mm | Domestic appliances, medical devices, machine tools, small conveyors, conveyor belts, paper transport machines |
PJ | 2,34 mm | 3,5 mm | Household appliances, electric motors, small machines, ideal for compact drives with small pulley diameters |
PK | 3,56 mm | 5,5 mm | Fans, air conditioning systems, concrete saws, wood saws |
PL | 4,7 mm | 7,0 mm | For heavy machines with high loads, conveyor technology, industrial drives |
PM | 9,4 mm | 13 mm | Extremely robust for heavy-duty applications such as heavy industry, mining or large machinery |
The choice of the right profile depends on the application, the required force transmission and the ambient conditions.
V-ribbed belts are manufactured as a wrap with 120-250 ribs and then cut to the required number of ribs. It is therefore important to check both the length and the number of ribs precisely before ordering. Subsequent connection to the wrap is not possible.
